Interview with Amber Riley
Brande: I appreciate you taking time. I would love to just start with the pandemic. This has been a really difficult seven months for our nation, for our community. How have you been coping during this time, for the past 7 months?
Amber: Honestly, staying my a** at home. Wearing a mask. You know, I don’t think that there is any correct answer for how to deal with the pandemic because none of us have dealt with the pandemic before. So you just do what you can. I mean like when I need to sleep, I sleep. When I start feeling a little crazy being in the house, I go for a walk, I workout, I mean I eat. I think that's what everybody’s been doing; I feel like everybody’s been eating. I do go to therapy, which has been essential. So yeah, I just try to listen to my body and whatever it tells me to do, that’s what I try to do.
Brande: Well, congrats on releasing music during this time.
Amber: Thank you.
Brande: Do you have specific products that you are using for the curls?
Amber: Oh man, not really.
Brande: Okay.
Amber: I am a product, Junky.
Brande: Same. Whatever I got on my hands, I will use it. I think it was in 2014 you and your sister had a fashion brand that you bought. What happened to that?
Amber: We literally just have so many clothes that people will send me and like plus size women to be like ‘Where did you get this? Where did you get that? Oh my God!’ because it's hard to find clothes for plus size women, especially clothes of quality, and when you do find brands, it's even super-duper expensive because it’s made well, or everybody got it and so you don't want to be walking around looking like everybody else. We normally don't have as many choices as smaller lines do. We get ten looks and then there are thousands of people that are buying it. So, we literally got everything from my closet. It was either never worn, or I wore it once on the carpet. So we did a big cartel that way, and we still want to do our fashion line. I still want to do a fashion line. I'm thinking of doing more fitness clothing as opposed to a clothing line. I am actually working on the business side of all those things because BGE isn't just a name it's actually the name of my company. BGE Inc and BGE entertainment is the name of my label and my production company. More things are coming after that.
